Pi Beta Phi Founding Leadership

Pi Beta Phi Lilly Pulitzer sorority print

The National Panhellenic Conference was founded in 1902.  Today, the conference includes 26 sororities, but it was originally founded by only 7 organizations.

Pi Beta Phi was one of the seven sororities that first helped in the development of forming the National Panhellenic Conference.

Pi Beta Phi itself was founded in 1867 by twelve founders! Pi Beta Phi created their badge based on their founders, and it has 12 links of chain to honor each of them.  The other part of the badge features an arrow, which can be plain or jeweled, and the letters of Pi Beta Phi.

It is also neat that links are represented in the badge because one of the national philanthropies recognized by Pi Beta Phi is Links to Literacy.

Pi Beta Phi’s nickname is Pi Phi, and their flower is the wine carnation.

Pi Phi’s flower is featured in their Lilly Pulitzer® sorority print! The print also features their arrow and their letters.

Lilly Pulitzer Sorority Print Around the World with Delta Zeta

Delta Zeta Lilly Pulitzer Sorority PrintDelta Zeta is not only a sorority contained within the United States, they are located in Canada and the United Kingdom as well!  While many sororities are actually considered fraternities, Delta Zeta is officially considered a sorority.

Since their Lilly Pulitzer® sorority print came out in 2010, the print has already had the chance to travel around the world!

Delta Zeta’s Lilly® print is special to it’s sisters because it contains their colors, old rose and nile green, along with the Killarney rose. Their unofficial mascot, the turtle, is featured as well! These are not the only symbols and colors… the Delta Zeta emblem is the roman lamp, and their Lilly Pulitzer® print contains a lamp also! So many great symbols of sisterhood in one print!

Lilly Pulitzer Sorority Print – Throw What You Know, Kappa Delta!

Kappa Delta Lilly Pulitzer Sorority PrintSororities and fraternities alike take an enormous amount of pride in their organization.  One simple way this pride is often demonstrated is through a “hand sign.”  Especially popular in sororities, girls will often take pictures displaying their hand sign.  While some gestures represent the organizations letters, other gestures represent the symbols of an organization.

Kappa Delta’s hand sign represents their letters.  They have even incorporated their new Lilly Pulitzer® sorority print with the hand sign! “Throw what you know” is often a phrase used by sorority women to convince not only their chapter to use the hand sign, but any of their friends as well!

While hand signs aren’t quite as popular for fraternities, many of the Greek men usually know at least a few of the sorority hand signs!

Phi Mu’s First Solo Flight

Phi Mu Sorority Print in the QuatrefoilSo far, we have discussed many famous sorority women in history.  Jerrie Mock, a Phi Mu alumni, is no exception.  Mock was the first woman to fly solo around the world!

Mock departed on March 19, 1964 from Columbus, OH and returned 29 days later after flying 23,103 miles around the world.  Mock’s suit, worn the day of her departure is now displayed at the Phi Mu museum.

What great things sorority women do! Imagine what the sorority museums will be filled with years from now… Hopefully not Lilly Pulitzer® sorority print products, women will probably still be using them!

The Phi Mu Lilly® Print features their mascot, the lion, along with their flower, the rose color carnation. Their Lilly® print within their symbol, the quatrefoil is shown on the left!

Alpha Phi Among the Stars

How many sororities can say that their mascot is named after a constellation? Alpha Phi’s constellation is Ursa Major, which means the Great Bear, so they adopted the mascot of “Alpha Phi Bear” in 1974.

The symbol of the constellation can be found on Alpha Phi’s crest, and the constellation is even displayed on the ceiling at Alpha Phi’s executive office in Evanston, Illinois!

Alpha Phi Ivy Leaf in Lilly Pulitzer Sorority Print

The constellation and the Alpha Phi bear aren’t the only two symbols to represent the organization.  Alpha Phi also uses the ivy leaf as a symbol, and their new member badges are shaped in this form.

Look how cute Alpha Phi’s ivy leaf looks in their Lilly Pulitzer® sorority print! Ivy leaves are displayed within the leaf, and one of their colors, Bordeaux, is used!

Alpha Omicron Pi’s Greek Tradition

A crest, or coat of arms, is a very important symbol to most Greek organizations.  However, for the ladies of Alpha Omicron Pi, no such symbol exists.  Alpha Omicron Pi is in fact, the only Greek organization to not have a coat of arms.  The original founding women chose this because the crest was believed to have been more of a medieval tradition, and the women believed more in their beginnings as Greek tradition.

Instead, the women have the Jacqueminot rose as their symbol.  This particular rose was chosen due to the fact that it has no thorns at all, which is believed to be more welcoming to their new members.

The giant panda is often portrayed as the unofficial mascot of Alpha Omicron Pi.  The panda is used because it is the only animal with no natural enemies.

Look how cute the panda and rose look on Alpha Omicron Pi’s new Lilly Pulitzer® Sorority Print!
